Tariffs for drinking water supply services were discussed in Batken and Talas provinces

A roundtable was held in Batken and Talas cities dedicated to the establishment of a tariff system for drinking water supply services and increasing the efficiency of the ‘Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Improvement Project in Batken and Talas provinces. The roundtable was attended by heads of ayil okmotu, chairmen of ayil keneshs, heads and accountants of municipal water supply entities, employees of the Antimonopoly Regulation Service and ARIS specialists. During the event, the issues of approval of tariffs for drinking water supply services, prevention of their unjustified establishment and increase, careful use of drinking water by consumers were actively discussed, and the participants exchanged opinions. Regional managers of the Antimonopoly Regulation Service provided detailed information on the essence and meaning of the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic dated June 19, 2024 #320 ‘On Approval of the Procedure for Determining Tariffs for Centralized Drinking Water Supply and Wastewater Disposal Services’. Maksatbek Jumashev, ARIS Institutional Development Specialist, noted that this resolution is unified methodological guidelines for the formation of tariffs for drinking water supply services and is aimed at preventing unjustified setting and raising of tariffs. In conclusion, the roundtable participants noted that they gained useful experience for practical application of the knowledge gained at the event. This contributes to capacity building of the staff of water sector institutions and project implementation.

It should be noted that as a result of cooperation of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic with the Islamic Development Bank and the Saudi Fund for Development, the ‘Water Supply and Sanitation Improvement Project in Batken and Talas provinces’ is being implemented. Within the framework of the project, 43 villages in Batken province and 17 villages in Talas province will be provided with drinking water. This event was organized in Batken city on April 10-11, 2025 and in Talas city on April 15-16, 2025.
