The culinary workshop in Nooken district contributes to improving public health

On August 30, Damira Temirbaeva, World Bank Social Development Specialist and co-leader of the NCIP task team, and Tolkun Zhukusheva, Senior World Bank Specialist on Disaster Risk Management, visited the culinary workshop completed in 2024 under the ‘Additional Financing for the Community Support Project.’ The facility is located in Masy village, Jalal-Abad Oblast, the administrative center of Nooken district and a key hub for trade.

The production of bakery products from vitamin- and micronutrient-enriched flour (including iron and folic acid) has helped prevent anemia, particularly among women and children. The project has improved nutrition and strengthened the health of rural residents, created new jobs, and diversified income sources for the local population. In addition, using local raw materials involved farmers, increased employment, and boosted incomes for vulnerable groups.

During the implementation of the subproject, energy-efficient equipment was introduced, and food waste was reduced through careful production planning. Sustainable packaging materials and resource-efficient approaches were also applied. These measures helped minimize the environmental footprint of production and promoted sustainable development at the local level.
