ARIS: People in Erkin-To’o Village, Osh have access to safe drinking water

April 25, inauguration of the new water supply system took place in Erkin-To’o Village constructed under the Sustainable Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Development Project being implemented by the Kyrgyz Republic’s Community Development and Investment Agency supported by the World Bank and the Cabinet of Ministers.

The inauguration was attended by I.T.Abdraev, Head of Raion Agricultural Development Unit; S.O.Abdykadyrov, Head of Salamalik Aiyl Okmotu; the World Bank team – Odete Muximpua, Task Team Leader; Togzhan Alibekova, Water Resources Analyst; Kamol Kamilov, Water Supply Engineer; Mars Naspekov, ARIS Executive Director; Korchubai uulu Erlan, Project Coordinator; project team and community members etc.

The ARIS Executive Director provided the participants with details of the project activity in the region, in particular the new water supply system.

“Civil works started at the end of 2022. The works included rehabilitation of 40-meter deep tubewell and construction of over 8 km of pipelines etc. Today, all households in the village are connected to the new scheme via meters. All socil buildings in the village have continuous supply of drinking water”, Mr. Naspekov said.

The opening ceremony also included demonstration of activities completed through the Sanitation development component; in particular, indoor sanitation facilities rehabilitated at the kindergarten as well as outdoor latrine at the secondary school.

In addition, a municipal water utility enterprise has been established towards sustainability of the new system and it receives comprehensive institutional support.

Overall, 2 470 people in Erkin-To’o have access to continuous drinking water supply.
