The World Bank Implementation Support Mission Visited Subprojects in Osh
The mission team reviewed the progress of works being implemented as part of the Sustainable Rural Water Supply And Sanitation Development Project supported by the Cabinet of Ministers and International Development Association (IDA). The Project is being implemented by the Community development and Investment Agency.
The mission team included
• Ms. Toqjan Alibekova, Water Management Analyst;
• Ms. Leyla Talipova, Water and Sanitation Consultant; and
• Mr. Amos Abu, Senior Natural resources Management Specialist.
ARIS team was represented by the Project Coordinator and other specialists. The team met with officials of local-self-governance bodies and contractors.
Subproject sites visited:
• Kyzyl-Zhar;
• Ko’o-Chaty;
• Gulbaar; and
• Otuz-Adyr.
Results of subprojects
• In Kyzyl-Zhar, over 7 000 villagers benefitted from sustainable access to safe drinking water;
• In Ko’o-Chaty the new system covered over 3 000 people.
Interventions for schools and kindergartens financed the works for sanitation improvements including new indoor handwashing sinks, outdoor 8-hole dry pit latrines with septic tanks.
• Training in sanitation and hygiene delivered for residents in two villages;
• Training modules prepared and delivered for capacity-building of community members and municipal water enterprise;
• Assistance provided in terms of establishing and managing the municipal water enterprise by delivery of 19 items of operation and maintenance equipment as well as full set of training and methodological guidelines.
Current progress
Civil works including connections to pipelines are ongoing in Gulbaar and Otuz-Adyr. Interventions will include installation of new handwashing sinks, septic tanks and indoor sanitation facilities at schools and kindergartens. Likewise, training and awareness-raising measures for sanitation and hygiene promotion will be implemented for community members and students.
Officials of local-self-governance bodies expressed sincere gratitude for project activity noting on substantial improvement of people’s living environment. Access to safe drinking water, proper sanitation and systematic support from the Project team facilitate long-term prospect for sustainable development in rural area.
The Project is aimed to improve the quality of rural water supply and sanitation thus facilitating sustainable development and improvement of living conditions for people.
